My review of this simultaneous bidding, pirate theme, trick taking card game. It has 4 levels of trump and you only score positive points if you make your bid exactly!

How about the Grandpa Beck's with Legendary expansion? Thanks
In France, this game is like l'Escalier ou l'Ascenseur, which is played with regular cards. I used to play it a lot in the 80s. A few reworked details but it is very similar. The game looks beautiful, though.
I guess I would get both versions and decide for myself. As someone pointed out, the female characters in the German version looks like a teenage boy's bedroom fantasy.
Thanks for the straight forward review. I almost bought Grandpa Beck's version.
Does it scale well with 2?
The rules for this game are absolutely dire. I think the rules have been translated from German and they've done a very poor job. Parts of it make no sense and the layout and structure of the rules just makes learning the game extremely difficult. The game itself, however, is excellent, but those rules are a huge hurdle.

I played wizard occasionaly, which is a fun trick taking game. Then some buddy showed me Skull King and this just blows wizard out of the water. It fixes like every problem wizard has (AP prone trick-bidding, unbeatable trumpcards…) and puts the awesomely fun YOHOHO mechanic in it.
This is awesome!
Which player starts the 2nd round? The one who won the previous trick?
this genre of game is NOT my jam.
It's like Wizard with much better artwork and a more interessting theme. The dice game saddly sucks.
Proud owner of Skull King.
It's really cheap here in europe 😛
Looks fun! Anyone know where to purchase in North America?
Looks great!
We have the Grandpa Beck's Scheming & Skullking version of this game, and I agree with you completely! It's my favorite trick taking game. We haven't even played Diamonds since we opened Skull King. My kids actually scream when there is danger they won't make their bid. "Hoops and hollers" is right!
